Bits and pieces

Hello! thanks so much for coming back. I do appreciate it. I was just having a conversation in my head that went a bit like this:
Do you work full time?
Yeah, as art director on a travel magazine.
Oh, do you get to go anywhere?
No not really.
Do you get to look at amazing pictures and be creative?
Yes - lots of beautiful imagery. Yep, often have to put together ideas for layouts or photo shoots.
Oh. So is it exhausting?
Yes! sometimes (like the last 2 weeks) by the time i get to my computer at 9pm it's hard to be creative or write anything that will be vaguely interesting...

So that's where i've been...

This weekend managed to do a bit of baking and catching up with creative friends.. Then have been 'collecting' online various bits and pieces. So finally got back to the machine and made this pouch for my 64 year old mother who just bought herself a Nintendo ds with brain training... so now she can pop it in her handbag to keep her mind active and mobile!
The 'scraps' were remnants (which i just had to stroke) from the gorgeous world of Lotta Jansdotter. I also found some other little square on Starlitnest, which i think is a great resource for experiencing some wonderful fabrics - in small pieces for buttons, little projects or quilting.

ps: I forgot to mention that i added frayed edges and stitching to my original little bear canvas paintings. I have a couple on Etsy right now..

Felt good, indeed

Firstly, I apologise for appearing in my blog for 2 consecutive weeks.. but it (my scarf) just wasn't going to look the same lying on a surface.. So yesterday, I attended a felting workshop - learn to make scarves. Woo hoo!
a)
have been dying to do a workshop for ages and b) OOOH! the possibilities of felt..
I guess at this point some people would think me/us a little odd. But for those of you that understand... HHmmm. It was glorious. Not that hard. Quite a bit of physical agitating needed. Lots of soap on hands.. and fairly quick results. It was great to see the range of everyone's handiwork.. from the colour combos to the 'lattice' style to my 'seaweed' one.. The workshop was in Sydney, taught by Gill who has some beautiful pieces on her site and was impressively wearing a few funky items too. Can't wait to get agitated at home now...
Then today was hoping for some lounging around to catch up with some inspiration but by the time i'd done some chores it was time to learn a bit of lawn bowls (Shell's birthday) and have a wander around Newtown .
Note to self: the 'enough' threshold is reached fairly quickly when a ball is involved, whereas 5 hours standing, in the presence of wool bundles and felt is another matter entirely...

Time travel?

Well another weekend flashes by, another Dr Who episode entertains us all. Wouldn't you love to just pop in the tardis, just for a moment. (Obvious reasons aside). Then we could go back to Friday night, and again, and again, well the bit past the drums (opening ceremony..) .. and on..or basically just to skip the week..
I had this whole red bus thing i just had to 'get out'. Firstly I embroidered a figure on muslin (very tricky that as a surface - big holes). Then i appliqued the above design to the t-shirt. Then I scanned it in to make this design - which I'm going to print on postcards. (I think my creative self must have multiple personalities ... it must be nice to design something with a consistent style).

We did leave the house: Miss R & I to see Mama Mia, and the boys to see Forbidden Kingdom. Singing Abba at close range can be really useful if wanting to freak out 10 year old boys.. Today I had a thing about bears and began work on this series. The photos are not the best - I'm thinking of listing them on Etsy so will do some better shots. .

So i'm not exactly sporty, but if there was a crafty decathlon I think i'd probably be in it.. this weekend had i submitted a 'sample' there would've been traces of cold and flu tablets. I think it's time to rest now... where's the tardis when you need it?

totally jumped with rejoicing

Here I am, indeed jumped for rejoicing! Ronny from bigpond left a note saying he had 'sent a linesman' and finally, YES! we have connection. ONE week, one WHOLE week WITHOUT internet. OH the isolation.
Nothing to listen to on the podcast, no inspiration, no Etsy, no seeing what everyone had been up to AND no blogging. What a week...
Then there was the eyeball incident .. I decided to go for a contact lense orientation (90 minutes of poking my finger in my eye, last Friday). Monday I get up earlier - and finally have success enough to leave the house - lenses in. By mid morning am feeling queasy and am focusing on left eye a bit too much. Decide to remove them. Proceed to bathroom, remove right one. Attempt to remove left one, realise it has disappeared. Check eyeball, check eyelid, check clothing, check basin, curse stupidity, return to desk. Sit whingeing about loss of lense. Rub eye. (light tap sound) lense folded like a crepe falls out of eye onto paper. ERRYUUUUUK! must have been hiding in eyeball somewhere.

BUT a big thank you to all of you who left comments about my blogging feelings, it meant so much and was very helpful.
It's nice to be back - hope you like my new happy robot - a foam stamp print i made recently. I just received the cards from the printer today. Altho I have a version without the type, some people don't always get robots, so i didn't want to confuse them with the type as well.. any thoughts?

So I'm pleased to be back. I thank you for your friendship.. and I leave you with another one of my new prints .. postcards also just delivered.. hope your week is ok so far, hope to see you on the weekend.
